What Are We Learning?
What Are We Learning?
ELA
This quarter, we are learning about human rights through the novel Esperanza Rising, by Pam Munoz Ryan. We are focusing on quoting accurately from a text, understanding plot structure, determining the meaning of unknown words, finding main idea, summarizing, and analyzing character reactions in writing. This module will culminate in writing our own original monologues from the perspectives of the characters in the book!
Social Studies
We are learning about indigenous people native to Tennessee and the surrounding area. Students will learn to name different tribes and chronological groupings of indigenous people and understand what made each of them unique.
For Extra Practice...
- Students receive a reading log every Friday to fill out for extra reading practice. If they turn it in complete with parent signatures, they earn a reward each time!
- There are resources linked on Clever for both ELA and social studies!
- iReady is a great tool for students to practice ELA skills at home.
- There are homework pages in the back of each unit of our ELA workbook that can be completed at home for optional extra practice.
